Novel Idea for Teaching Disinterested Reading Students
August 13, 2008 by SWH, under Announcements.
What developmental reading teacher has not had to deal with the lackadaisical reading student? Essie Childers (Blinn College) has a novel idea to present to you in her CASP ‘08 pre-conference institute, “A Novel Plan: Motivation and Comprehension in Just Six Weeks!” This session will present ways to create interest and motivation in the reluctant reader through the use of novels. You will learn how to complete an “entire novel” with your class while improving comprehension through active learning strategies. This approach, which is designed to be completed in about six weeks, is used as a supplement to the textbook. Participants in this institute, practicing various comprehension strategies in a group setting, will come away with creative ideas plus sample materials and a novel packet.
